Breaking Philippines news! Free vegetable seeds and planting materials
According to Department of Agriculture Philippines. To ensure food availability for COVID-19 threatened citizens, the Philippines Department of Agriculture is stepping up city farming by distributing free vegetable seeds and seedlings throughout the country.
“We need to study all strategies to ensure that products are accessible to people, especially during this difficult time,” said Minister of Agriculture William Dar, who emphasized the importance of urban agriculture even before the coronavirus episode.
“Under this program, we hope to provide households, especially in metropolitan areas, with the opportunity to grow fresh and wholesome food products under quarantine themselves,” he explained.
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Philippines, through its Plant Growing Bureau, distributes various seeds of vegetable crops and seedlings to all citizens who wish to join city farming.
“We are also building community gardens in cities in free territories so people can organize themselves and work together on urban farming,” said Glenn Panganiban, an official from the Plant Production Bureau.
Residents of cities can make an order for seeds and seedlings of tomatoes, eggplants, okra, mustard and other crops by contacting the Ministry of Agriculture or the Plant Growing Bureau.
Home gardening is a useful and healthy family activity during the quarantine period because of the coronavirus, officials emphasize in their appeal to citizens.
