COVID-19 LABORATORY ACCREDITATION STEPS
Stage 1: self-assessment
The laboratory will conduct self-assessment using the
tool provided by RITM. The components of the self
assessment tools are:
> Access to the laboratory,
> Design of the laboratory,
> Use of laboratory safety equipment,
> Administrative contol and management,
> Records and documentation,
> Personnel practices and training
Stage 2: Validation
A team from DOH, RITM, and WHO will conduct an on site visit to check the correctness of the self assessment. The team Will inform the laboratory of its deficiencies, and the laboratory will have to comply with recommendations before proceeding to the next stage
Stage 3: Personnel training
The personnel who will operate the laboratory will have to undergo a special 3-day training at RITM
STAGE 4: PROFICIENCY TESTING
At this stage, the laboratory may already accept COVID-18 samples. However, the laboratory Will first need to test 5 positive samples as confirmed by RITM before proceeding to full-scale implementation.
STAGE 5: FULL SCALE IMPLEMENTATION
Once all 5 positive samples have been confirmed by RITM as correct, the laboratory will be certified and allowed to process and test samples at full scale.
