Cebu Pacific Air finalises order for 16 Airbus jets include Airbus A330neos
* Expected to cut cost per seat, fuel emission
* Airbus A330neos to be delivered between 2021 and 2024
The new Airspace by Airbus interior concept debuted on the Airbus A330neo! TAP Air Portugal received its first A330neo, becoming the launch operator of this type of aircraft. The first time I saw the Airspace concept two years ago as a full-size layout in Toulouse, and looking at the visualization with virtual reality glasses at the IATA summit in Sydney, I felt for the first time that I was getting on board a spaceship, not an airplane. And now, two years later, I go on the first plane with this interior!
On the one hand, reality is somewhat different from the render. But on the other, I see a new interior, where every square centimeter of space is thought out to the smallest detail, where new technologies balance in the best way between passenger comfort and economic efficiency for the airline. In the modern world of fierce competition between carriers and the rapid decline in airfare (I remind you that since the year 2000 airfare in the world has decreased by 3 (!) Times) only the implementation of new technologies, solutions in the service and interior makes the airline competitive in the market. And for us passengers, it offers a product that we want to use, I want to fly and discover new countries and directions!
So, Airspace by Airbus is a set of options that each customer individually customizes for himself. TAP Air Portugal did not choose all of the proposed ones, but at the same time made the cabin as practical, ergonomic and aesthetically balanced as possible. And the company colors and materials of the seats are also visually very pleasant, one of the best long-haul aircraft interiors that I have seen in principle!
Airspace by airbus
- Airspace Bin - Luggage racks of a larger size (60%!) And withstand more weight. The brand new A330neo TAP Air Portugal will make its first flight to Sao Paulo in December 2018, and we all know how many things a long-haul passenger takes with him, especially to South America or Asia. Therefore, this moment is one of the most important.
- In the cabin of the new aircraft an extra inch of width at the shoulder level of a passenger sitting at the window in economy class! Just an inch, but the difference is really noticeable!
- New layout of LED lamps in the cabin and new dynamic lighting schemes on board the A300
- Well, the entrance to the cabin should surprise the passenger! Here a new so-called ceiling light system in the entrance group of the middle door.
And add to this the fact that the cabin is also quieter thanks to the new Rolls Royce Trent 7000 engines, and you get the perfect plane!
I already wrote about who needs the A330neo, in the next report I will describe the market prospects and the current state of orders for aircraft of this family, because the A330 today is the most popular wide-body passenger aircraft in the world! Currently, more than 1,400 aircraft of this family are operated in a fleet of 128 operators, and the order portfolio is more than 500 aircraft. And the board is interesting in terms of interchangeability on medium-haul routes with the A320 family, even within the same airline. A330neo competes with 787-8, replaces 767, it will become in the future a replacement for A330-200 and -300, which will be withdrawn from the fleet in the next 10-15 years. A330neo is significantly cheaper than the flagship A350, the appearance of a modern, cost-effective new offer on the market expands the possibilities.
The A330neo is based on the technology used to create the A350 XWB. The A330neo family is represented by two models: A330-800 and A330-900, designed to accommodate 257 and 287 passengers in three classes. These aircraft are equipped with highly efficient Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines with a 10: 1 bypass ratio, have an improved aerodynamic contour (new wingtips of the A350 XWB type, increased wing span, titanium pylons), and are also equipped with the new Airspace passenger cabin. Compared to competing aircraft of the previous generation, the fuel consumption “per seat” of the A330neo was reduced by 25%.
Interior A330neo TAP Air Portugal
In the coming years, TAP Air Portugal will receive another 20 A330-900 aircraft. Currently, it operates 72 Airbus aircraft (18 - A330, 4 - A340 and 50 aircraft of the A320 and A320neo family).
The resulting A330-900 has a three-class cabin layout, designed to accommodate 298 passengers (34 in the business class, 96 in the premium economy and 168 in the economy class). The layout in the business is 1-2-1, in the economy 2-4-2. The airline has chosen the industry leader Recaro as the seat supplier. In the business class, this is one of the best options on the market - the Recaro CL6710 model: maximum privacy with individual access to the aisle, many small drawers for things. The disadvantage of this arrangement is the feeling of reduced space. But in the modern long-haul business class, there is always a dilemma - either more space or more privacy.
Also in the economy class, Recaro seats offer everything you need for a comfortable long-haul flight.
