Each and every event in the history has its consequences and some monuments are built to memorialize them and to draw attention to the problems of the past.
Bohol witnessed the first international treaty of peace and friendship. It was between two races and two different nations. Representatives of these parts met together; they were Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and Datu Sikatuna. They signed the treaty in the way of a native ritual, which is known as the Blood Compact. Each man took two or three drops of shedding blood, which then were mixed with wine and drank together equally.
No one knows the exact date of this contract, as historians are haggling. The same problem with the place and the fact whether this was the first treaty of friendship between Spanish people and people of the Philippines. It is thought that this event happened in the sixteenth century.
It really does not matter when and where it happened. As every year Sandugo festival is hold, it symbolizes the mixture of two bloods and means that people are made of one blood, this one.
There is a visual reminder about this event in Bohol, which do not allow to get about important part of the Philippines’ life and its history.
