CEBU, Philippines — The P18-billion coordinated retreat and club venture on the nine-hectare Kawit Island at the South Road Properties would uproot 50 trees, said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DERN)- 7.
The trees incorporate seven acacia, one duha, one mabolo, two mahogany, two mango, 24 narra, five neem, and eight talisay, said DENR-7 Community Environment and Natural Resources Office Officer Raul Pasoc.
"There are 50 trees planted inside alienable and dispensable land possessed by the City Government of Cebu secured with Transfer Certificate Title No. PT-15961 that will be influenced by the proposed Cebu Integrated Resort Project of Universal Hotel and Resorts Incorporated (UHRI) as appeared on the appended geo-labeled photographs," he said.
UHRI solicited the consent from the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) for the earth-balling of 15 trees to clear path for the advancement of the expensive venture.
Be that as it may, in view of DENR's real review, 50 trees would be influenced by the undertaking.
Pasoc, in a letter dated April 15, said UHRI needs to consent to the prerequisites set by law preceding the issuance of a grant.
The necessities are letter demand from the defender; goals from the Cebu City Council intervening no protest to the evacuation of trees; venture plan demonstrating the structure to be fabricated and the area of the trees influenced; Environmental Compliance Certificate; and Earth-balling and transplanting plan with comparing maps.
CENRO Head Nida Cabrera said her office has just issued an archive of "no protest," which the gathering is set to consider on.
Cabrera said her office will help the UHRI in the evacuation or balling out of trees to guarantee their survival.
"Wala ra tay complaints. Naa beam innovation ana and daghan na ta'g na earth-ball sa CENRO nga buhi ra gyud like dinha sa Mahiga Park," she said.
She said the earth-balled trees are intended to be exchanged to a private property in Lapu-Lapu City.
UHRI plans to build three lodgings, incorporated retreat office, a business or strip mall, assembly hall, performing expressions theater, themed park and famous open workmanship, parking garage, and gambling club on Kawit Island.
